The SPAMAST KaSaMa CREATIVE HUB

The SPAMAST KaSaMa Creative Hub is an engaging facility driving innovative minds for cultural and technical ideation, innovation and improvement to support productivity and sustainable individuals in the society. It envisions as “A creative hub of Indigenous Peoples’ culture and living traditions and a summit of Prosperity, Respect, Ingenuity, Dignity and Empathy (PRIDE) promoting equality in the global arena.” The hub is guided by its mission statement as “Research, Innovate, Develop and Extend (RIDE) to preserve, promote and protect culture and heritage fuelled by passion and creativity through inclusive leadership in Davao Occidental. It values Collaboration, Respect, Optimism, Inclusiveness and Loyalty (CROIL) to transform individuals with a brand. The word KaSaMa is coined from ethno-linguistic words Kasambukan (Tagakaulo), Sansatu (Blaan), Magsebed (Monobo), which means unity.

The Project

The project is focused on the documentation of textile weaving and accessories making  of Tagakaulo women in Barangay Datu Danwata, Malita, Davao Occidental. This is  where textile weaving skill has been handed down by a respected artisan in the  barangay, and preserving the culture is in dire need. These women are also sustainably  making fashion accessories and other crafts for a living. The products are of culture based colorful designs.

To showcase these handmade products, a Mini Museum is established in the College and  serving as the SPAMAST Creative Hub, too. It serves also as display area for products in  the locality. These product samples in the Mini Museum are also available in barangay  Datu Danwata Women Association Showroom which is 35.0 kilometers away from the  municipality center.
