FPIC

The Food Processing Innovation Center – Davao was established by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI in 2014 to drive the local food processing industry. It is the first ever food innovation center in the Philippines that serves as productive hub for food processing innovation and a one-stop center for relevant technical and logistical support. FPIC’s sustained operations and host of accomplishments was made possible through the collaboration among DOST XI, Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Department of Trade and Industry XI, Food Processors Association of Davao, and the Local Government of Davao City.

FPIC-Davao had been a key player in shoring up the local processed food market as it helped Medium, Small and Microenterprises (MSMEs) to access support services for value-adding of fresh produce. Through the Center, innovative technologies, technical expertise, necessary infrastructure, and facilities had been provided to small business owners both in the urban center and the rural areas.

In 2016, FPIC-Davao was awarded with the Davao Region Excellence Award in Project Implementation (DREAPI) given by the NEDA-Regional Development Council XI. In the same year, FPIC-Davao was also awarded as 2nd place in the most innovative products competition in Manila under the spray-dried product category. Its official entry was the spray-dried buko powder. In 2020, FPIC-Davao was chosen as one of the awardees for the Government Best Practice Recognition (GBPR) of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP).  GPBR seeks to promote, showcase and share knowledge on outstanding and innovative practices demonstrated by the public sector organizations. Last December, FPIC-Davao was also one of the awardees for the 2020 DOST Intellectual Property Awards given by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), the highest recognition and scientific body of the Philippines.
