Maan Chua

Marie Anathea ” Maan” Chua is a Davao born Singer, performer and  Composer from who writes songs about the beauty of Mindanao, culture, Nature and other social issues.. She have been performing on local, national and international events as well as write jingles and theme songs since 2001. 

In 2003 She toured in India with the Band Mebuyan for the Asia women’s festival which was held in New Delhi and Calcutta. 

She was the lead role in the musical theater play “Salima” which was performed all over Mindana in places like Pikit, Midsayap, Marawi, Kabacan, Iligan, CDO, Cantilan, Baroy, Camiguin, Ozamiz, Oroquietta, Malaybalay and the Folk arts Theater, Cultural center of the philippines in 2003 and 2004. 

2007 Champion and best intetpreter in the Global Cooling Women’s song writing competition for her song “Dahon, Puno, Ugat, Lupa by the Mindanao Commission on Women. 

Became champion in Tunog Mindanao in 2011 and 2013
Won 2nd place on 2009 and 2014
And 3rd place in 2012

And became an adjudicator for the same competition in the following years..

In 2015, she was commissioned to write the themesong for the Palarong Pambansa hosted by the Province of Davao del Norte entitled ” Palaro ng Pagkakaisa”. 

In 2016 she got a grant from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts or NCCCA for the production of her album “Sayaw” where part of her proposal was to distribute the ouputs in form of a CD to be diatributed in public schools, and SLTs (School for living traditions) all over Mindanao. 

Two of her NCCA proposals got another grant for the publication of 2 of Kublai’s Coloring books Entitled ” Pinagkaisa ng Pagkakaiba” featuring the Tri-People in all fhe illustrations and the 3 set coloromg book entitles Ikaw, Ako, Tayo about what you, I, we can do to uplift and inspire eachother. Recipients of Both coloring books were public schools and SLT’s in Mindanao as well. 

2016-2017 Toured in Visayas and Luzon for the Panaghabi production funded by CCP. 

In 2017 she was commissioned by the CIO and the City Mayor’s office to write the Kean Gabriel hotline or popularly known as 09088184444, Biyaheng Do30 jingle and Agosto sa Dabaw. 

In 2018, She was the Champion of the 1st Habi Kadayawan Accessory design competition for her neck piece entitled “Agung”. 

In 2018 she performed in Canberra and Sydney Australia for the celebration of Philippine Independence featuring Mindanao’s Culture. 

In 2019 She had a minor role in Brilliante Mendoza’s Film “Mindanao” Starring Ms. Judy Ann Santos, where her song “Itadyak” will be used to promote the said film.

In January 2020, she was also commissioned to write a song for GMA’s One Mindanao Program which will be aired from Zamboanga to Jolo. She also wrote 2 covide hotline jingles for the city government at the beginning of the lockdown in Davao. 

In September 2020, she was comissioned to do a themesong for an Event called “Tambayabong” for the Indigenous Peoples Month in Davao City. Song Title: “Lantawon,Paminawon”. 

November 2020, Performed online for a fundraising event for House of Hope which is an institution that takes care of children with Cancer. 

In October 2020, she was commission by the DOT XI to do a themesong to promote the region. Song title is “Madayaw Dabaw”. 

In October 2020, She was commissioned to make a christmas song about hope for Mapua Schools. Song title: “Liwanag ng Pag-Asa”. 

In October 31, 2020, she was invited to sing the doxology and Philippine National anthem for the episode 3 of NCCA’s Dance exchange series of performances. Where my song “Sayaw” became their theme for their untiy dance. 

In November 2020, She was commissioned by the NCCA dance commitee to make a theme song for their Dance Exchange festival headed by Ms. Shirley Halili Cruz. Song title : “Sayaw ng Puso”. 

In November 25, 2020, was invited to perform online for DOT XI’s GAD-VAWC conference. 

In November 2020, The movie “Mindanao” by Brillante Mendoza starring Judy Anne Santos was selected to be the 93rd Oscars International Feature Film category where I had a minor role sining my own composition entitled “Itadyak”, a song which was also used during the promotion of the movie. 

She has been facilitating songwriting workshops in different parts of Mindanao, and have writen numerous jingles and them esongs for LGU’s and other provinces. She had also been Adjudicating for local, regional and national songwriting and talent events. 

Was able to self produce 3 full albums and 2 Music videos. Have been performing solo, and in a band from 2001 until present.
