The Madayaw Cultural Ensemble started in 1998 as a group of children who performed for the annual feast day of the Immaculate Conception in their chapel. They continued performing for other feast days in different Barangays. As they grew up and became professionals, so did their passion and love for performing.
To this day, the Madayaw Cultural Ensemble is one of the most celebrated dance groups in Davao. Their pieces mostly revolve around the culture and tradition of the Muslim Tribes in Mindanao. With their authenticity from costumes to choreography, they have won numerous cultural dance competitions and earned awards locally. They have topped the Sayaw Mindanaw for many years. The Sayaw Mindanaw is a cultural dance theater competition conducted every year during the Kadayawan Festival. The group won their third (3rd) straight championship in the said competition in 2019. With their three straight wins, they were no longer allowed to compete in the said event, however, this did not stop them from performing.
The group performs, not only to entertain their audience and win competitions, but also to educate them about the Mindanaoan Culture that is, most of the time, misinterpreted and misrepresented.
Some of their Performances:
Sayaw Kadayawan 2019 Champion – Madayaw Cultural Ensemble
