Pasalidahay is a Davao-based collective of filmmakers and film enthusiasts that fosters audience development for developing cinema from the Philippine regions and from Mindanao through films screenings, forums, and workshops.
In 2015, Pasalidahay started with sporadic film screenings in alternative art spaces in Davao City – from bars to artist spaces. Since then, it has built on programming and screening a diverse selection of films from all over the country, introducing local audiences to regional cinema. It also now conducts film exchanges with film collectives and film festivals from other parts of the country.
Pasalidahay is currently the main organizer of the Ngilngig Asian Fantastic Film Festival, the rebranded Davao Ngilngig Film Festival, a genre film festival that thrives in as well as challenges the conventions of the horror and the fantastic genres.
Mindanao has a vibrant film scene, thanks to the passionate artists behind the organization Pasalidahay.
A Davao-based collective with a national scope, Pasalidahay is composed of film makers and film enthusiasts advocating for the recognition, promotion and development of Filipino regional and independent films. It describes itself as “a community of artists, filmmakers and organizers who recognize the importance of a film as a platform for expression and change, who value the diversity of audiences and the need to develop an awareness, appreciation and understanding of art and culture”.
Since its inception in 2015, Pasalidahay has positioned itself as the voice and agent of regional and independent film makers. With great commitment, Pasalidahay became the driving force behind the success of several award-winning indie films and film makers.
Co-founded by renowned independent filmmaker Bagane Fiola, Pasalidahay embarks on captivating the interest and appreciation of mainstream audiences for indie and locally-made films. It started with sporadic film screenings in alternative art spaces in the City of Davao. Its advocacy gained ground and has attracted followers among artists and film enthusiasts. Today it has grown to become a highly regarded circle of brave and fabulous film makers and enthusiasts of home-grown cinematic art. It builds on carefully curated selection of films that were opened for all, thus bridging mainstream audiences to local and indigenous films. It has also conducted several film exchanges with film collectives and film festivals from other parts of the country.
In February 2020, Pasalidahay, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, launched the first Davao Kilig Film Festival, Mindanao’s first rom-com film festival. The nine budding film makers who joined the festival underwent masterclass sessions with Bagane Fiola.
